Nestled behind the Howard Johnson Hotel at Ouellette Place and Eugenie (formerly the Marquis Plaza Hotel), the Marquis Restaurant is a well-kept secret; a local business with truly homemade breakfast and lunch food.

This teeny-tiny restaurant serves up some of the best, most-friendly breakfast and lunch in Windsor: it’s open from 7:30am until 2pm, six days a week (closed Mondays). While the restaurant was designed to cater to motel guests, its primary clientele is Windsorites and is hugely popular for breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays.

The decor at the Marquis Restaurant is straight out of Europe. The main dining room has only six tables with incredibly ornate furniture. A secondary dining room is used on weekends and when the restaurant fills up.

The “Marquis Breakfast” is under seven dollars per person and includes two eggs, bacon, ham or sausage, home fries, toast, a selection of fruits and vegetables creatively arranged on your plate, and your choice of coffee, tea or milk.

The Marquis’ pancakes are wonderfully homemade; same goes for their french toast. Breakfast hours run between 7:30am and 11am.

The Marquis lunch menu features homemade soup-du-jour, a selection of salads (greek, chicken caesar, house), and classic sandwiches such as reubens, tuna or salmon on a croissant, a club house and BLTs. If you’re in the mood for pastas, be sure to try their gnocchi with blush sauce or ‘vegetable crepes’. Lastly, the Marquis lunch menu has a selection of steaks and burgers, pork chops, red snapper and grilled chicken breast.

Expect to find your bill handwritten with a few European chocolates, and cash is the preferred payment method. Visa, Mastercard and Debit are all available by taking a short walk over to the motel.

The Marquis Restaurant is located at 53 Eugenie Street East (second driveway off of Ouellette, behind the motel). Their phone number is (519) 966-1860 EX# 176.
