Green Leaf Specialty Grocer opened for business on Ottawa Street in April.

The grocer specializes in organic, certified GMO-free groceries, as well as vegan and gluten free products. They carry fresh produce that is organic and pesticide and chemical free. A variety of local produce are being added daily.

They currently have vegan grab-n-go lunches available from Eat What’s Good, but the grocer plans on producing their own grab-n-go meals in the near future. They are in the works of setting up a kitchen so all grab-n-go lunches can be made fresh right in the store by owner and certified chef Fred Sorrell. The kitchen will also insure that nothing goes to waste – unsold produce nearing its end will be put to use to make fresh soups and other dishes.

While they carry well-known organic staples, such as Bob’s Red Mill flours and grains and Simply Organic spices, they also carry a variety of local products. The Cinnamon Leaf is a local business that offers spices that are sourced from sustainable agricultural practices and honour fair-trade and community development missions.

The grocer is in the process of adding new products, the most recent additions being Toffuti sour cream and cream cheese alternatives, kamboucha, and live wheat grass. For updates on newly added products you can visit their Facebook page.
