If you ride the bus, take note, Transit Windsor fares are set to increase on January 1st.
Transit Windsor has released a new fee schedule following approval by City Council to raise fares approximately 10%.
Cash fares for adults, seniors and students will jump from $2.50 to $2.75 starting on the first day of January.
Monthly adult transit passes will increase by $8, from $79 to $87, student monthly passes will go up by $5 from $55 to $60 and senior/affordable monthly passes will only increase by $4, from $40 to $44. The new fares for passes will start effective January 15th for the sale of February passes.
Packs of five bus tickets will be increasing also on January 1st, from $10.50 to $11.50 for adults, and from $8 to $9 for students and seniors.
Day passes and family passes, which are based on three-times the cash fare, will be increasing from $7.50 to $8.25.
The tunnel bus cash fare will increase by only fifty cents to $4.50. Tunnel passes will jump from $79 to $87 per month and combo passes will increase to $143.
The fare hikes are expected to pay for a recent increase in fuel costs and Transit Windsor general manager Penny Williams says the additional revenue will be used to maintain the existing system and routes.
You can purchase bus tickets until December 31st at the current prices.
