In their first visit to the WFCU Centre, the Ottawa Skyhawks were looking for the underdog win. They came close, but Windsor was thinking otherwise. The Skyhawks threw all they could, but the Express came out on top. They spoiled Ottawa’s stopover with an 88-85 win.

DeAndre Thomas had another great game, leading the way with 21 points and 15 rebounds. Quinnel Brown scored 21 points, while Stefan Bonneau got himself 18.

Both teams were off to a slow start Sunday afternoon. A Kevin Loiselle two-hand slam early on got the Express Nation noisy though. However, they were having a hard time getting the wheels spinning. The Skyhawks made them pay for their mistakes. Missed rebounds, passes and foul shots allowed Ottawa to take control. A three-pointer by Papa Oppong gave the Express the lead again. As well, a set of made foul shots by Stefan Bonneau finished the quarter.

A monster jam by Jermaine Johnson started the second quarter. The train went downhill from there. Despite a big three, and also a huge block, by Bonneau, the Skyhawks kept putting up points. They sank plenty of three-point baskets and built a lead against the Express. At the half, Ottawa was up over Windsor 54-45.

Windsor’s strongest quarter of the game was definitively the third quarter. The team came out strong with its defense: Darren Duncan blocked a shot and the Express picked up many rebounds. They outscored the Skyhawks 34-16 in the third, in part because of an Oppong three and a one-handed dunk by DeAndre Hall. Eventually, they took advantage and headed to the fourth quarter with a lead.

Ottawa came right back in the final frame. The visitors capitalized on offensive rebounds as they preyed on the Express’ missed chances. Windsor tried to hold onto the lead, but the Skyhawks closed in. They even set up a 360 degree dunk. Unfortunately, the Express continued to find themselves in trouble with their free throws. The team was solid when it counted though. in the final seconds, they halted a rush by the Skyhawks.

The Windsor Express put a stop to the Ottawa Skyhawks with an 88-85 victory.

The Express return to the court Sunday, December 8th at 2:00pm against the Moncton Miracles.
