Plans for the new Windsor VIA Rail station were unveiled Monday afternoon by Mayor Eddie Francis, Dave Van Kesteren, Member of Parliament for Chatham-Kent-Essex and Yves Desjardin-Siciliano, General Counsel and Secretary of VIA Rail Canada.
The new train station will cost an estimated $6.3 million from the Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan and is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2011. The building contract was awarded to Loaring Construction of Windsor, Ont.
The new facilities will include many sustainable and energy efficient features such as geothermal in-floor heating, solar panels and LED lighting.
