In what would most likely be his last Windsor City Council meeting, Percy Hatfield said thank you at the end of Monday nights meeting.
Hatfield reflected on his past seven years as a Councillor, but also his time that he covered city council as a reporter dating back to the 1970’s.
He thanked the City of Windsor staff and said he believes they are the best in the province and said he will miss working with them and senior administration. He also thanked and recognized his council colleagues and Mayor Eddie Francis.
Hatfield, who was elected in last week’s provincial by-election, said his goal representing Windsor-Tecumseh will be to provide a new voice and to get everyone working on the same team.
He said he will continue with committee work for the rest of the week, and will official resign next week, once results are made official.
A standing ovation by everyone in council chambers followed his speech.
Mayor Eddie Francis said they will have Hatfield back at a later date to make a formal presentation to him.
City Council has not decided how they will fill his soon-to-be-vacant council seat.
