Children’s Games Looking For Songwriter To Compose Local Anthem

The 2013 Windsor-Essex International Children’s Games Organizing Committee is calling upon talented songwriters and musicians to compose an original song that will be performed live at the 47th International Children’s Games Opening Ceremonies here in Windsor on Thursday, August 15th at the WFCU Centre.

“The ICG Theme Song Contest provides a rare opportunity for both aspiring and established local songwriters/ musicians to have their song heard in an international arena. Imagine thousands of spectators, athletes and coaches from around the world humming your song during opening ceremonies!” says Melissa Williams, Director/Producer, ICG Games Opening Ceremonies.

The contest is open to Windsor-Essex residents of all ages. Songwriters/musicians are encouraged to submit an original 90 second song including lyrics and basic song structure by March 8th. After the submission deadline, all lyrics will be judged by a panel of industry professionals. The winning theme song will then move on to Phase 2 of the contest which will search for the official performers of the winning song. The winning song will capture the spirit of the ICG in that of friendship and peace and through sport, the values of fair play, equality, respect, acceptance, hard work, team spirit and creativity

Contest Schedule:

Phase 1: Starts February 11th and will require applicants to submit an original 90 second song including lyrics and basic song structure (ex. Verse, bridge and chorus). The closing date for submissions is March 8th. Submissions will be available for viewing on the website by March 11th. The winning theme song will be chosen by a panel of industry professionals and announced on the website March 22nd.

Phase 2: Starts March 22nd and will require applicants to submit a 90 second performance of the winning theme song chosen in Phase 1. The closing date for submissions is April 8th. Submissions will be available for viewing on the website by April 10th. The finalists will be chosen by public vote and a panel of industry professionals and announced on the website April 22th.
