A Windsor girl’s dream came true Tuesday night in Toronto when her tweet to British-Irish boy band One Direction was read in front of 16,000 fans.
Ava Droski, a 21-year-old graduate of Assumption Highschool, a local musician, and a student at the University of Windsor, was absolutely overwhelmed and ecstatic when singer Niall Horan selected her tweet out of hundreds to read on stage.
“Niall, can you say something in the Voiceover Man voice?” Droski tweeted to the band.
The Voiceover Man voice, Droski explained, is a rendition by the singer of the announcer’s voice from the TV show the X-Factor — the show which made One Direction famous in 2010. One Direction has made international headlines and topped the Billboard Hot 100 at number four with the song “What Makes You Beautiful”.
“My immediate reaction when my tweet came up on the screen was to scream.” she says, “After the guys read out my name and waved to me, I fell to the floor and was completely overwhelmed.”
“I think they pulled up my tweet because it was a different question to the commonly asked tweets from fans. I had seen concert videos on YouTube of the guys reading fan tweets, and none of them asked Niall about his Voiceover Man voice. I thought ‘why not?!’ and sent it in,” says Droski whose tweet she says was more than likely read because of a bit of luck.
“Niall is from Ireland, and for the concert I was dressed in green, and wearing four-leaf-clover earrings, so I guess it was partly the luck of the Irish that brought my tweet to the stage that night!”
