LaSalle Police Warn Of Text Message Scam
LaSalle Police Service has issued a warning about a scam currently circulating in our area involving a text message claiming to be from Service Canada.
The text states that the recipient’s CPP and OAS benefits have been suspended due to a recent tax assessment and that action must be taken to resolve the issue.
The recipient is told to respond “Y” for yes to resolve the issue.
The text message scam then sends the recipient a fake CPP-related hyperlink, which takes them to a realistic impersonation of the CRA and banking websites, asking for personal information to sign in to the fraudulent website.
Police remind you not to reply in any way to the text message, click on the link, or provide any personal/financial information.
