Not finding enough art in Windsor? Check out their long time run gallery in the Lebel (University of Windsor) building located right on Huron Line.  SOVA (School of Visual Arts)  recently hosted a show in participation with VABE (Visual Arts and the Built Environment) a joint program between University of Windsor and University of Detroit for Visual Arts and the Built Environment/ Architecture.  Titled Point of Egress, the show consisted of different architectural designs and compositions representing five students in their third year of studying. A multitude of mediums were used allowing viewers to interact directly through sound and sight.

Also part of Lebel is The Trophy Case, a micro gallery allowing exposure for students who are just starting out as artists or interested in a new platform. The gallery is located in a high traffic area, reaching optimum exposure. Currently Stephen Surlin is exhibiting his work  with a combination including a photograph based off of Babara Krugers work, a video depicting reconstructed internet memes, and a high-tech installation with the ability for onlookers to directly interact with the piece. This exhibition is inspired by Black History Month and raises questions about popular culture, identity, and racism. Having a technical background, Surlin uses mixed media which  allows him to play around with an assortment of ideas and possibilities when creating his work. As I had the chance to watch him set up shop, check out his full exhibition for yourself and really explore what it means to be a consumer and a producer in today’s world.
