The first day of 2022 is going to be snowy.
Environment Canada says that rain or snow is expected to develop over the area Saturday afternoon and then transition to snow. There is a risk of brief freezing rain or ice pellets during this transition.
Total snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 cm (2 to 4 inches) are possible when the snow comes to an end Sunday afternoon.
Travel may be hazardous Saturday night and Sunday morning as untreated surfaces are expected to become snow-covered and icy.
This snow is the result of a low-pressure system passing south of Lake Erie Saturday night.
Environment Canada says that there is still uncertainty regarding the track of this system. If the low-pressure system tracks farther south, the resulting snowfall amounts will be less.
