The City of Windsor is shutting down municipal recreation facilities as the city moves into the Red – Control status of the provincial Keeping Ontario Safe and Open framework.
“The fact that we have moved three times in the past three weeks is an obvious indicator that the situation in our region is significant, and getting worse,” said Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens. “It hurts having to take another step back, but that’s what we’ll do, and together we’ll regroup as a community and refocus our efforts on keeping each other safe”.
City officials say Red – Control limits recreation services including the ability for teams to play games or practice.
The City says they’re taking additional steps beyond the Province of Ontario’s framework including suspending recreational services in pools, arenas and community centres for a two-week period.
In addition to adhering to all Provincial restrictions in this stage, the @CityWindsorON is proactively & temporarily suspending recreation services in pools, arenas & community centres for a 2-week period in an effort to stop the spread of the virus. https://t.co/fOIl2iywdt 2/3

Officials say the move is an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19 and to limit the risk of municipal recreation facilities becoming the site of future outbreaks.
They say however after-school programming in City facilities will continue, and tenants leasing space in City facilities for after-school programs or non-recreation services can continue, but all recreational programming and rentals will end on Sunday, November 29, 2020, and be reassessed two weeks later.
Windsor will enter Red – Control at 12:01am on Monday November 30th.
