Chewy

Breed: Yorkshire Terrier Mix
DOB: October 1, 2017
Weight: TBD
Sex: Male
Energy Level: high energy
Adoption Fee: $400.00

Requirements:
-fully secured fenced yard (no electric fence)
-no apartments
-if another dog in the home, must be an active dog

Pup-sonality:
Chewy is a happy-go-lucky boy who loves people. He is crate-trained and is still working on his house-training. He will need a patient family willing to work with him on his house-training through positive reinforcement behavioural training. Chewy is very active and wants to play fetch all the time. He doesn’t know a lot of basic commands, but is willing to learn. He wags his tail all the time and loves to gives kisses. He is excellent on a leash and loves his daily walks. Chewy is super friendly and loves to be held. He rarely barks and is very eager to please. He currently lives with other small dogs and has lived with cats and older respectful children. Chewy will make the perfect little buddy for the right family willing to work on his training and willing to give him all the love and attention he deserves.

Medical Note: When Chewy was rescued, he tested positive for heartworm, but has since been successfully treated with immiticide in Texas in August 2019. He will require a standard heartworm test in February 2020 as follow-up. Chewy must remain on monthly heartworm preventative for the rest of his life to ensure there is no recurrence of infection. Chewy is one of the lucky ones as heartworm positive dogs are the first to lose their life in a high-kill shelter. Heartworm is so easily prevented and should not mean the end of an otherwise healthy dog’s life. We rescue as many as we can as they deserve to live their fullest and happiest life with humans that love and care for them.

All dogs available for adoption with Second Chance Animal Rescue Windsor-Essex come fully vaccinated, including lepto, spayed/neutered, microchipped, and heartworm tested (and are on heartworm/flea preventative while in our care). At adoption, adopters receive a 6-week free trial of pet insurance.
