Smoking is now prohibited on the properties of all recreational facilities, private and public, across Ontario.
The provincial government has changed the Smoke Free Ontario Act 2017, which now no longer allows any smoking on recreational properties or within 20 metres of the perimeter of those properties.
The new provincial legislation takes precedence over the City of Windsor by-law that allowed for smoking in designated locations around recreation centres, and as a result, there will no longer be designated smoking areas available around any Windsor recreation facility.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit carries out enforcement of smoke free legislation locally.
