Tech Hub Expands At Forest Glade Library

Grants from the City of Windsor Ward Funds and the Ward Renewal Project of CUPE Local 82 will see the Forest Glade Library filled with new technology.

Ward 7 Councillor and Windsor Public Library Board Director, Dr. Irek Kusmierczyk, has provided $6,000 of ward funds which have been combined with $6,000 from the CUPE ward renewal project to provide the Forest Glade community with access to cutting edge technology.

“Children, teens, and adults will be encouraged to explore and experiment with this new technology,” says Ward 7 Councillor, Dr. Irek Kusmierczyk. “The library will use it for innovative programming, and I’m sure it will attract new customers to Forest Glade Library, particularly school children in the area.”

Many of the features of the Central Library Technology Hub have been added to Forest Glade, including a 3D printer, circuitry kits, app-controlled robots and robotic kits and a small, lightweight drone which fits in the palm of your had.

Other additions include Muse meditation headbands which sense brainwaves and are beneficial to the meditation practice and Osmo, which provides hands-on play for young children on an iPad.

The library says that the most exciting addition is the Occulus Rift Virtual Reality System which creates a VR environment for games, learning, and exploration.

“We are truly grateful for these monies and the subsequent infusion of technology at Forest Glade,” says WPL CEO Kitty Pope. “Staff are busy developing exciting programming incorporating the new hardware and software which will only be a tremendous benefit to the community. Councillor Kusmierczyk and CUPE deserve praise for their investment in the Forest Glade community.”
