For the 35th year in a row Artcite Gallery has invited local artists to sell their works in the annual Doin’ The Louvre holiday sale.
Located on the corner of University Avenue and Pelissier Street, Artcite usually vets all shows that take place at the gallery, and does not offer art for sale. Once a year, however, they allow local artists to sell two- and three-dimensional artwork as a way to raise funds for the gallery.
With hundreds of pieces for sale, ranging from photographs to clothing to sculptures, everything is priced at $99.99 or less, which an excellent atmosphere for those looking to purchase unique holiday gifts. This has helped Doin’ The Louvre to obtain a “reputation” amongst artists and buyers in the city, according to Artcite Technical Coordinator Michelle Soulliere.
The popularity of the show can also be attributed to the gallery’s location. “We’re right in the downtown core, we have beautiful windowfronts, and there is a lot of foot traffic,” says Soulliere.
While Soulliere admits that this is not the largest year the event has seen, she feels that it is “nice to see hat there is a wide range of artists generationally speaking,” noting that there are submissions from local arts aged twenty to eighty-five.
Artcite Gallery is located at 109 University Avenue West, and is open 12:00 – 6:00 pm Tuesday through Saturday. The Doin’ The Louvre exhibition and sale will run until December 24.
