Gas From Abandoned Well Causes Concern In Leamington

A mixture of gases from an abandoned well is escaping outside of a private residence in the 200 block of Robson Road in Leamington.
Town officials say two residences have been evacuated as a precaution, and that they are working with emergency crews and has contacted responsible ministries and other agencies in order to obtain assistance.
Monitoring equipment being utilized in the area and the roads will be closed, except for local traffic. Outdoor burning will be banned in the immediate area until further notice.
A localized emergency has been declared and funding has been requested from the province to assist with the efforts to resolve this issue.
