Leading expert on walkable cities James Howard Kunstler, will be in Windsor on Thursday, June 9th, 2016.

Kunstler, the American author of the best-selling books Geography of Nowhere and the Long Emergency, will discuss how small cities and towns can create walkable places and their role in the long-term future of the environment.

Kunstler’s appearance comes as part of the 24th annual Congress for the New Urbanism, an international gathering of architects, planners, engineers, developers, and advocates building walkable cities, towns, and neighborhoods. CNU 24 is based in downtown Detroit, but features a full day of Windsor-based programming on Thursday focusing on the unique challenges and history of Canadian urbanism, in addition to the Windsor events scheduled for Saturday June 11th.

Speaking in Windsor, he will draw on his most recent work and discuss the role that small towns and cities will play moving into an uncertain future, and how communities like Windsor with close connections to agricultural land and major waterways hold a unique advantage over others.

He will appear at St. Clair College Center for the Arts at 6:45pm.  Admission is free and open to the public.
