Several residents of an East Windsor apartment building have been taken to hospital after fire broke out inside a 5th floor unit, Wednesday morning.
Windsor Fire crews were called around 7:20am to 2455 Rivard to find flames shooting out onto a balcony at the rear of the building.
Several floors of the apartment building reportedly filled with smoke while residents attempted to evacuate.
Firefighters assisted numerous residents –many of them elderly – down stairwells and out of the building to be examined by waiting paramedics.
The blaze was brought under control shortly after 8am.
Windsor Fire officials say three people were taken to the hospital, two for assessment, and one for minor smoke inhalation.
Most esidents were allowed to return to their units after noon, but fire officials say that residents of 32 units will be displaced for today.
Rivard reopened shortly before 2pm.
