There’s another air carrier coming to join Porter, Air Canada, Air Transat, West Jet and Sunwing at Windsor Airport.

National Airlines, a company based out of Florida, but originally from Ypsilanti, Michigan, will offer “full service” non-stop flights, twice-weekly between Windsor and Orlando, Florida, starting this December.

The Airline chose Windsor as it gives Windsorites an easily accessible way to head to Florida, while encouraging Floridans to head to Canada and experience tourism in Windsor-Essex, with the recently strong U.S. dollar.

“It means our residents will no longer have to cross to Detroit to catch flights to Florida,” said Mayor Drew Dilkens.

National Airlines Company President Edward Davidson says the airline will offer competitively priced flights to Florida’s theme parks, beaches and cruises.

A company brochure lists travel times from Orlando’s airport to several Florida attractions: 44 minutes to Disney World, 30 minutes to Universal Studios, 41 minutes to Sea World, and 58 minutes to Port Canveral.

Davidson stressed that they are also not a low-budget carrier. “We’re a full service carrier,” he said. “We offer free drinks, a free meal, reserved seating and your first checked bag is free.”

The airline will offer “big jet comfort” on a Boeing 757 that seats 184 people. Twenty-two of those seats are first class.

National will begin flying out of Windsor on December 17th, and will depart and return each Thursday and Sunday. Flights are only two and a half hours long each way, and run for $148 CDN.

Company officials say their call centre will be answering calls this afternoon. You can find more information and book flights at nationalairlines.com.
