City Council is being asked to approve problems with the height of the roadway at the VIA Rail crossing with Jefferson Boulevard and nearby South National.
The city undertook a safety assessment of the intersection, and several improvements are being recommended including leveling the grade of the roadway to acceptable standards, adjusting the height of the crossing signs, making improvements to pavement markings and installing LED lights to increase visual impact.
The total cost to carry out the improvements is estimated at $200,000. Transport Canada provides grants to cover 50% of the cost of crossing improvements and the city must apply for this by August.
Final decision goes to City Council on May 4th.
