There is a new radio station in town. On the dial as 100.7 CKUE FM, it was known as The Rock for years until it switched to Lite FM on January 30th 2014. And now it is changing again.
As of 10am Thursday, the station will be called “COOL-FM” and will “play it all” featuring the best-of-the-best from the 80’s, 90’s and today, according to the company. Artists include Bon Jovi, Queen, INXS, Pink, John Mellencamp, Def Leppard, Fleetwood Mac, Maroon 5, Duran Duran and Billy Idol.
The station says that extensive research in the market indicated strongly that a change was needed. “Listeners told us we were too soft and sleepy on CKUE-FM,” says Walter Ploegman, Blackburn Radio General Manager. “Listeners can expect a very upbeat, fun radio station that plays songs that everyone knows.”
In addition to music, the station will feature local news, weather and community information for both men and women age 35 and up.
COOL-FM’s new Program Director Jay Stevens says, “I’m extremely proud to return to my roots and help a wonderful team bring a great COOL new brand to the Windsor market By playing it all, we’ll be many things to many people, but the one constant is that we’ll definitely be COOL.”
The station said that research also indicated the Windsor-Chatham radio market is lacking “a music format that is geared towards a more middle-aged adult,” an “adult that is on the go, active, and looking for fun.”
“From a business perspective, we are competing for listeners every day and that pie is getting smaller.” Ploegman went on to say that “investing in the market means taking every opportunity to research and accumulate feedback to produce the most appealing relevant format possible.’
