This Friday April 10th marks the 150th Birthday of Jack Miner, who was Canada’s first conservationist.
Back in 1947, The Canadian Government declared the week of Jack Miner’s birth, April 10th, 1865 to be National Wildlife Week, and fast forward sixty-eight years later, the Jack Miner Migratory Bird Foundation will be celebrating National Wildlife Week this coming weekend with workshops, vendors, children’s activities, Duck and Goose Calling contests and the Jack Miner 150th Rockin’ Birthday Bash Saturday night.
This is the third year that Jack Miners has been selected as the Canadian Duck Calling Contest Qualifier for the World’s Duck Calling Championship contest in Stuttgart, Arkansas.
Visitors to the Sanctuary will also be treated to the unforgettable Master Duck & Goose, Team calling contests, all in “Main Street” style. They promise that it will be an experience you’ll always remember.
In addition, you will be able to fish in the trout pond; sit in on a photography workshop or an ice fishing seminar by Quinte Hard Water Specialists and have lunch served up by the 2nd Kingsville Scouts while taking a break from the scavenger hunt. Watch a retriever demonstration by the Essex Hunting Retriever Club and Gander Ridge Retrievers, feed the birds, build a birdhouse, drop into the museum, and visit the historic Jack Miner house, all for free.
Then on Saturday evening, its the Jack Miner 150th Rockin’ Birthday Bash featuring Bigg Wiggle, and the Rock Farm Band. Tickets are $25 each and include the musical entertainment and a chicken dinner served from 5pm to7:30pm. Bands take the stage at 8pm until 12pm. Open to people aged 19 and over.
