On Saturday, the Ontario Hockey League suspended defenceman Trevor Murphy for five games for violating its diversity policy following Friday’s game in Sault Ste Marie.
On Sunday evening, the Spitfires released the following statement: “During the course of any given game, things are often said among players in the heat of competition. But we understand the league’s policy on language is clear and we accept its decision.”
The hockey club says that given the nature of their busy upcoming schedule and the playoff race, they need to move on from this and focus on the final three weeks of the regular season.
