The City of Windsor is hosting its 2nd annual World Snake Day on Wednesday.

Celebrated world-wide each year, World Snake Day promotes awareness and conservation of all kinds of snakes.

Celebrations will take place at the Ojibway Nature Centre, 5200 Matchette Road, from 11am to 3pm.   This free event will provide the whole family with a fun way to rejoice in our scaly reptile friends, with presentations by Steve the Snake Guy and hands-on experiences brought to you by Sciensational Sssnakes.

World Snake Day provides an opportunity for the nature center staff to educate the general public on species at risk right here in our own local environment, including Butler’s Gartersnake, Eastern Foxsnake and Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake populations, with a focus on local snake species and the threats they face; Parkway ecosystem-based restoration efforts; monitoring techniques; and protective measures.

Based on the premise that it is everyone’s responsibility to protect and respect endangered snake species, Windsor’s event will raise awareness with displays and activities that are both engaging and educational.

Presentations will take place at 11am and 1pm along with crafts and hands-on demonstrations of the species that shape the local environment.
