Chalk Artists Turn Windsor’s Riverfront Into A Giant Canvas

Chalk artists, both professional and enthusiast, took to Windsor’s riverfront Friday afternoon to send a message of community.

“Today we’re celebrating social media day,” said organizer Dan Brown. “The theme that we have is ‘tied to Windsor-Essex,’ so we’re asking ‘what ties you to Windsor-Essex?'”

The community was invited out to share what they love about Windsor and Essex County. Some sentiments included friends and family, multiculturalism, accessible culture for everyone, and much more.

Fine artist Julie Butler, who specializes in acrylics, glass mosaics and sculpture, was invited to create the yKnot Windsor-Essex logo using chalk and pastels.

“I’ve done a few street painting festivals; I ran the one in Tecumseh, and I’ve done some markets and different events, so the city called me up and asked if I’d do a spot for social media day.”

The knot logo, which organizers of the yKnot youth group say symbolizes the ties citizens have with the community, was created to appear like two children were painting the logo.

You can catch the chalk art before rain washes it away, on Windsor’s riverfront, just east of the Caron pumping station at Riverside Drive and Caron Street.
