Local Talent Brings People Out To Music Festival

For 25 years the McGregor Music Festival has raised money with food, entertainment, raffles and most importantly – fun.

Throughout it’s 25 years, the fundraiser has grown from the intentions a single gentleman who’d lost loved ones to cancer, to an entire county coming together to fight the disease. It started out with just three bands and has expanded to a total of nine bands this year, with many different kinds of raffles, included a pig auction, which chairwoman Susan Leclair said is their “event trademark.”

“We’re just keeping it simple,” said Leclair. “We decided we don’t need a headliner. We have all the local talent in Essex County, that’s what brings people out. The money stays in Windsor and we are the only county fundraiser for the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre Foundation. There’s a lot going on in the city, but not in the county. County people get to party too!”

In the past, the event has been known to bring out over 700 people, raising $27,000. Leclair said she aims to go above and beyond that each year.

The festival included a Barbershop Quartet, County music, Rock N’Roll music, all types of entertainment to bring out the widest variety of people possible.

“It’s basically just trying to raise funds to have the top equipment available in the city of Windsor and Essex county and Kent county for the people,”  said LeClair. “That’s what we aim for.”
