Walkerville’s first ever night market was a huge success, Friday evening, and organizers are thrilled with the turnout and neighbourly spirit they’ve seen.
“I’m really excited that so many people from the community came out to support local businesses this evening,” said market organizer Teanna Lindsay. “Our producers, our crafters, everyone is doing so wonderfully and it’s nice to see the neighbourhood getting together.”
“There’s picnic tables, people are meeting people, making new friends…neighbours are seeing neighbours they haven’t seen for a long time, there’s kids dancing, it’s exactly what we wanted.”
The Walkerville night market launched its first last-Friday-of-the-month farmers’ market with sunny evening skies and warm temperatures — just the right mix to attract several hundred customers to The Willistead restaurant’s parking lot at Wyandotte and Chilver.
By 7pm, the venue was shoulder-to-shoulder packed with urban market goers snapping up bushels of farm-fresh produce from county favourites such as Lee and Maria’s Market and Bradner Farms. Locavores enjoyed brews poured by Willistead staff and browsed a dozen other vendors from crafts to meat.
The future is bright for the Walkerville night market.
“We’ve got a lot of exciting things planned for the next few months,” said Lindsay. “Each month we’re going to kinda do something a little bit different, we’re looking at different themes, and we have a lot of ideas we want to incorporate into the event.”
The next night market takes place on Friday, June 27th. For more information, visit their website.
