Over the past three years, over 3000 native trees and shrubs have been planted in the Little River/Ganatchio Trail corridor as part of a partnership project between the Essex Region Conservation Authority (ERCA), the City of Windsor, and many other volunteers.

ERCA is inviting volunteers to help plant a riparian buffer around existing ponds along this corridor this Saturday from 10am to 1pm.

Riparian buffers are the natural vegetation along the edge of a stream, pond, or wetland, and help to control erosion and provide habitat for wildlife.

Entrance to the planting area is located off Wyandotte Street East, just west of Florence, in east Windsor. Volunteers are encouraged to wear boots and long pants, and to dress for the weather. High school students can earn community service hours by taking part in this event. Planting equipment and gloves will be provided to all volunteers, and a light barbecue will follow the planting.

Interested volunteers should please RSVP to Caroline Biribauer, Outreach Coordinator, ERCA, at [email protected] or 519-776-5209, ext. 245.
