IB Program Coming To Two French Catholic Highschools

The Conseil scolaire catholique Providence recently announced that écoles secondaires catholiques l’Essor and E. J. Lajeunesse have undertaken the comprehensive authorization process in order to offer the International Baccalaureate program. Having now received certification, the IB Diploma Program will be offered in these schools starting in September of 2016.

According to the director of education, Joseph Picard, “this constitutes another important element in our board’s desire to offer several quality programs to our French language students.”

The IB Diploma Program is a rigorous program for students aged 16 to 19 years of age “equipping students with the skills to learn and acquire knowledge, individually and collaboratively, and to apply these skills and knowledge accordingly across a broad range of areas.” (IB Website)

In order to prepare students for the rigors of the IB program, the board will offer a Preparation Program for students in grades 9 and 10, and board staff will participate in program-­‐intensive training prior to the program’s introduction to ensure adherence to IB standards and to maximize student experience.

With the introduction of the IB program, students from Grades 9 to 12 will have the opportunity to participate in a world-­‐class academic program giving them the skills and tools to be successful at the post-­‐secondary level and beyond.
