The 23rd annual Windsor Chess Challenge returns this year after being paused for two years due to COVID-19.
The event welcomes teams from over 95 elementary schools in Windsor and Essex County. During the two-day tournament to be held this year on February 28 and March 1 and hosted by the Ciociaro Club of Windsor, nearly 1,500 students will compete to win one of 300 medals. Playoffs for top finishers will be held on April 8.
“The Windsor Chess Challenge is very popular with elementary school students, many of whom have never represented their schools in a competitive event. Watching teams gather for a picture, some with matching team shirts, holding their medals and grinning widely is so rewarding,” said Tournament organizer, Kathleen Westlake.
School teams and officially home-schooled students are invited to register through the portal at www.chesschallenge.info. Cost per player is $12. Registration fills quickly and will be closed when capacity is reached.
