The St. Clair College Alumni Association donated $5,000 to the Knobby’s Kids hockey and skating program at Lanspeary Park this past Saturday morning.
Knobby’s Kids was founded in 2006 by Robert “Knobby” Knudsen, Jerry Slavic, and Frank Spry, who all saw a need for a free hockey and skating program in the community. All of the founders of this program have passed away. Marty Kerester and community volunteers have kept the program running.
The funds donated will be used to fund the costs of the rink rental and insurance for their Saturday morning programs at Windsor’s Lanspeary Lions Outdoor Rink.
The College’s alumni association has donated to cover these costs for over ten years.
Knobby’s Kids is a skating and hockey program for kids who cannot afford skates and equipment to learn or play in an organized hockey league or learn how to skate. The program runs from late fall till March.
