The City of Windsor has released details of its commemoration program to honour Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. Canada will mark the death with a national day of mourning on September 19th, 2022.

The Queen’s funeral will take place on Monday, September 19th, 2022. The funeral will be held at Westminster Abbey, the historic church where Britain’s kings and queens are crowned. The service will be broadcast on BBC television and will be available to stream on BBC iPlayer, with updates on the BBC news and radio networks throughout the day.

The City, in partnership with Element Entertainment / NXT Level, will host an outdoor public screening of the funeral at City Hall Square, beginning at 5:45am Eastern Standard Time (EST) on Monday, September 19th, 2022. Residents attending are asked to bring their own lawn chair. The lobby of City Hall will be open from 8:30am to 4:30pm that day to allow residents to attend and sign the book of condolences on site.

The City will also co-host a public memorial service for The Queen with All Saints’ Anglican Church on Monday, September 19th, 2022, at 6:00pm. It has been customary for All Saints’ to host such a gathering at the passing of monarchs and in conjunction with the City. This tradition will continue with a ceremony to include a procession into the church led by the Essex and Kent Scottish Regiment, Evening Prayers led by Reverend Robert Clifford, music from Windsor Classic Chorale with Organist David Carle and Soloist Jennifer Swanson, and remarks from dignitaries. To accommodate the expected congregation size, audio and video from inside the church will be broadcast outside at City Hall Square, courtesy of Element Entertainment / NXT Level. Commemorative keepsake cards will be available to attendees while supplies last.
