Twice Weekly Health Unit COVID-19 Update: Thursday, May 5th, 2022

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 135 new high risk cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County. Testing is still limited to high risk individuals only the province estimates actual COVID-19 cases are around 10 times higher than what is being reported.

NOTE: The Health Unit now only releases COVID-19 Public Health Updates on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Active Cases

There are 216 high-risk cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (decrease of 38 active high-risk cases).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s COVID-19 vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex).

• 357,230 people locally have received one dose of a vaccine (+24 since yesterday)
• 345,716 people locally have received a 2nd dose of a vaccine (+46 since yesterday)
• 196,063 people locally have received a 3rd dose of a vaccine (+117 since yesterday)
• 18,864 people locally have received a 4th dose of a vaccine (+695 since yesterday)

Vaccination Percentages

• 86.6 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of < 0.1 per cent)
• 83.8 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated (increase of < 0.1 per cent)
• 51.7 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 18+) have received a 3rd dose/booster (increase of 0.1 per cent)

Deaths

The Health Unit announced 5 additional deaths from COVID-19 bringing the local death toll to 618:

• Two men in their 60s from the community
• One woman in her 70s from the community
• One woman in her 80s from the community
• One woman in her 90s from a long-term care or retirement home

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 44 hospitalizations today (decrease of 5), and 3 of those hospitalizations are in the ICU (decrease of 1).
