Twice Weekly Health Unit COVID-19 Update: Thursday, May 12th, 2022

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 80 new high risk cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County. Testing is still limited to high risk individuals only the province estimates actual COVID-19 cases are around 10 times higher than what is being reported.

NOTE: The Health Unit now only releases COVID-19 Public Health Updates on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Active Cases

There are 150 high-risk cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (decrease of 50 active high-risk cases).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s COVID-19 vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex).

• 357,397 people locally have received one dose of a vaccine (+45 doses)
• 346,005 people locally have received a 2nd dose of a vaccine (+98 doses)
• 196,578 people locally have received a 3rd dose of a vaccine (+155 doses)
• 23,182 people locally have received a 4th dose of a vaccine (+1220 doses)

Vaccination Percentages

• 86.6 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of < 0.1 per cent)
• 83.9 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.1 per cent)
• 51.8 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 18+) have received a 3rd dose/booster (increase of < 0.1 per cent)

Deaths

The Health Unit announced 1 additional death from COVID-19 bringing the local death toll to 620. They say a man in his 90s from the community passed away.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 32 hospitalizations today, and 1 of those hospitalizations are in the ICU (decrease of 2).
