The Via Italia BIA, in partnership with the City of Windsor and Windsor Police Service, held the third Annual Community Alley Clean-up Day along the neighbourhood Saturday morning in to the afternoon.
Volunteers from the community and local businesses put their gloves on and assisted in cleaning up and beautifying the Via Italia area, looking to make it safer and more enjoyable for residents and all who come to the area.
Via Italia has been a part of an ongoing Alley Safety Initiative, which began in 2020. An addition of 6 LED alley lights had been installed previously and a recent addition of 41 more lights has recently occurred. The initiative is one part of a project that will include naming all the area alleys.
In a press release, Via Italia BIA President, Filip Rocca stated in relation to the project: “I think it’s important for us to get together here on Erie Street as a community and to get together to help make the area more vibrant by cleaning up our alleyways and our streets. This is something we intend to continue to do with the help of the community and our partners, The City of Windsor, Windsor Police Services and the FedDev of Ontario. We are constantly striving for safety through initiatives like this and other projects that are planned for the near future.”
