Improvements to McKee Park on Windsor’s west end will begin May 25th, 2022.
Over a three to four week period, crews will remove and replace all the asphalt pathways, install three new bench pads (with decorative benches to follow), and set concrete footings for eight new decorative light standards. Work will also be done to improve drainage, including new catch basins, and re-grading to raise up low spots.
The work will require a short-term closure of trails and greenspace, but the parking lot and boat launch ramp will remain open.
Once all the groundwork is laid, three exciting phases of enhancements will begin:
- Phase 1 – Boardwalk and gazebo installation
- Phase 2 – Trails, lighting, silos and benches
- Phase 3 – Playground installation
In total, the park is set to receive an estimated $400,000 upgrade, with $150,000 allocated from the City’s capital budget, another $50,000 coming from ward funds, and a significant $200,000 contribution from the Gordie Howe International Bridge Community Benefit Plan.
