Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update From The Weekend

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 178 new high risk cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County from over the weekend. The Health Unit does not report case counts and statistics on weekends but provides a weekend summary. Testing is still limited to high risk individuals only the province estimates actual COVID-19 cases are around 10 times higher than what is being reported.

NOTE:  Starting tomorrow, the Health Unit will only be releasing COVID-19 Public Health Updates on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Total Cases & Active Cases

Of these 178 new high risk cases:

  • 57 were reported on April 30th
  • 59 were reported on May 1st
  • 62 were reported on May 2nd

There are 253 high-risk cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (decrease of 62 active high-risk cases since Friday).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s COVID-19 vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex).

  • 357,169 people locally have received one dose of a vaccine (+65 since Friday)
  • 345,600 people locally have received a 2nd dose of a vaccine (+119 since Friday)
  • 195,821 people locally have received a 3rd dose of a vaccine (+197 since Friday)
  • 17,354 people locally have received a 4th dose of a vaccine (+1,115 since Friday)

Vaccination Percentages

  • 86.6 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.1 per cent since Friday)
  • 83.8 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.1 per cent since Friday)
  • 51.6 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 18+) have received a 3rd dose/booster (increase of < 0.1 per cent since Friday)

Deaths

There are no additional deaths from COVID-19 and the local death toll stands at 610.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 48 hospitalizations today (decrease of 3), and 3 of those hospitalizations are in the ICU (decrease of 1).
