The Ford City Business Improvement Association has installed the first hand-painted crosswalk in the City of Windsor.
Local artist Julie Hall designed and installed the crosswalk on May 9th and 10th, 2022, at the west side of Drouillard Road, crossing Whelpton Street.
The crosswalk, titled Plant 1, acknowledges the original Ford Canada headquarters and assembly plant on Riverside Drive that was demolished in 1970.
“A visit to the site inspired this design, which features graphic interpretations of some of the mixed species of plants that have populated much of the vacant area,” explains Hall
The BIA would like to extend their gratitude to the City of Windsor, Merlo’s Paint & Wallpaper, and the Ford City BIA businesses for their support of this project.
“It is a unique addition to the neighbourhood, and the crosswalk is a great representation of local arts, culture and history,” said Executive Director of FCBIA, Kaitlyn Karns.
