Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update From The Weekend

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 264 new high risk cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County from over the weekend. The Health Unit does not report case counts and statistics on weekends but provides a weekend summary. Testing is still limited to high risk individuals only the province estimates actual COVID-19 cases are around 10 times higher than what is being reported.

Total Cases & Active Cases

Of these new high risk cases:

  • 81 were reported on April 2nd
  • 112 were reported on April 3rd
  • 71 were reported on April 4th

Total overall cases increased from 40,001 on Friday, April 1st to 40,265 on Monday, April 4th.

There are 317 high-risk cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (decrease of 66 active cases since yesterday).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex).

  • 356,514 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+61 since yesterday)
  • 344,439 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+260 since yesterday)
  • 193,593 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+374 since yesterday)

Vaccination Percentages

  • 86.4 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
  • 83.5 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
  • 51.0 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 18+) have received a 3rd dose/booster (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)

Deaths

The Health Unit announced one additional death from COVID-19 bringing the local death toll to 594. They say a woman in her 90s from a long-term care home passed away.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 44 hospitalizations today (increase of 4), and 2 of those hospitalizations are in the ICU.
