Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update For Thursday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 145 new high risk cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Thursday. Testing is still limited to high risk individuals only the province estimates actual COVID-19 cases are around 10 times higher than what is being reported.

Total Cases & Active Cases

Total overall cases increased from 40,535 on Wednesday, April 6th to 40,684 on Thursday, April 7th.

There are 383 high-risk cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (decrease of 11 active high-risk cases since yesterday).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex).

  • 356,555 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+0 since yesterday)
  • 344,516 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+0 since yesterday)
  • 193,741 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+0 since yesterday)

Vaccination Percentages

  • 86.4 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
  • 83.5 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
  • 51.1 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 18+) have received a 3rd dose/booster (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)

Deaths

The Health Unit announced one additional death from COVID-19 bringing the local death toll to 596. They say a woman in her 70s from the community passed away.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 48 hospitalizations today (increase of 1), and 2 of those hospitalizations are in the ICU.
