The 100-year-old Walkerville Collegiate Institute building is seeing nearly $10 million in renovations.
Work being done includes extensive work on the exterior masonry and limestone facade and the removal and replacement of existing exterior windows and door frames.
The school is also filling in the existing pool and converting the space into a new dance and music room, a new dressing room and a new music practice room and storage areas.
The library will see the removal of the existing mezzanine and lockers to create quiet study areas, small offices, library circulation desks, conference room, and IT closet. There will also be upgrades to heating, cooling and ventilation, and lighting and electrical. There will be a new reflective ceiling, a new floor and paint.
The Cafeteria will see windows replaced, floor replacement, new reflective ceilings, new rooftop air cooling condensers, new light fixtures, and the painting of the walls.
There will also be work to a new theatre arts room, and new vocal room and office.
Work is also taking place on the water service, science room, custodial rooms and ventilation work in the gym.
The project will be complete by September 2022, but it is being turned over to the school for its use as work is finished.
