Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update For Tuesday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 34 new high risk cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Tuesday. Testing is still limited to high risk individuals only the province estimates actual COVID-19 cases are around 10 times higher than what is being reported.
Total Cases & Active Cases
Total overall cases increased from 39,636 on Monday, March 28th to 39,668 on Tuesday, March 29th.
There are 269 cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (decrease of 44 active cases since yesterday).
Vaccinations
Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex).
- 356,328 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+11 since yesterday)
- 343,844 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+58 since yesterday)
- 192,706 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+87 since yesterday)
Vaccination Percentages
- 86.3 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
- 83.3 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
- 50.8 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 18+) have received a 3rd dose/booster (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)

Deaths
There have been no additional deaths from COVID-19 and the local death toll stands at 592.
Hospitalizations
The Health Unit lists 42 hospitalizations today (increase of 4), and 4 of those hospitalizations are in the ICU (increase of 1).

- 2 total cases
- Windsor Regional officials said in a news release that a visitor visited a patient in the hospital and removed their mask while with them. The visitor later tested positive for COVID-19 and unfortunately passed on the infection to two patients in the same room, leading to an outbreak declaration for the 8 East floor at the Ouellette Campus.
