COBS Bread Union Square opens its doors to the public on Wednesday, February 16th, 2022, and will donate 100% of its profits that day to the Paediatric Unit to assist in purchasing a Preva Mobile Dental X-Ray machine.
“It is the spirit of COBS Bread to give back,” said local franchise owner Sandra Janzen who recently moved to Windsor from Toronto. “We are very philanthropic as an organization, and I have a deep appreciation for all that medical professionals do for us, which is why we are raising funds for the hospital.”
The $7,000 X-Ray machine designed specifically to examine children’s teeth will replace an older device that is 20 years old. The new x-ray machine will provide state-of-the-art digital dental radiographs to help dentists detect fractures, advanced dental caries, dental abscesses and other abnormalities.
“This machine will assist our dentists and oral surgeons to correctly diagnose issues in a child’s mouth,” said Windsor Regional Hospital Paediatric Dentist Dr. Anne Young. “Children’s teeth are very different compared to adult teeth not only in size but in development and response to problems. It’s important to have suitable equipment to detect and diagnose any issues at an early stage, to ensure they don’t become bigger problems later.”
The X-Ray machine is also instrumental for diagnosing and treating special needs children and adults who are unable to let us know if and when a problem exists. The current machine at Windsor Regional Hospital is used for 1300 surgeries annually.
There are 125 COBS Bread locations in Canada. It offers freshly baked bread, croissants, cinnamon buns, and other baked goods daily. The bakery at 650 Division Road, Unit 111 (in Union Square Plaza) will be its first location in Windsor. At the end of the day, leftover bread will be donated to the Unemployed Help Centre-Hub of Opportunities.
