The Health Unit is lifting the Letter of Instruction suspending the arrival of workers participating in the federal Temporary Foreign Worker program in Windsor and Essex County.

The instructions were issued on Tuesday evening and required owners and operators of businesses who employ Temporary Foreign Worker’s  to cancel, suspend, or postpone any arrangements for the arrival of workers for a period of three weeks.

This was made in response to the rapidly increasing rates of infection and evidence of spread in congregate settings,  to preserve capacity of isolation resources which were full and spilling over into community hotel rooms. Isolating those who are sick or who have been exposed is a requirement of provincial guidance and is an integral strategy to contain the virus and break the chain of transmission.

Throughout the week the Health Unit says they have worked with all levels of government to formulate a resolution to this issue. With the concerted efforts of local leaders in the healthcare, housing, and social service community the region collectively was able to establish the level of support necessary to meet isolation requirements for workers who are sick or who have been exposed.

As a result of this increased capacity for isolation, the health unit has rescinded the letter Friday evening.
