Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update For Friday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 221 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Friday. The Health Unit now only reports high-risk cases as testing eligibility is still limited.

New & Total Cases

Total overall cases increased from 34,165 on Thursday January 27th to 34,393 on Friday January 28th.

There are 1,662 cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (decrease of 165 cases since yesterday).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex).

• 352,339 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+321 since yesterday)
• 333,221 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+531 since yesterday)
• 175,300 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+1,116 since yesterday)

Vaccination Percentages

• 85.4 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
• 80.8 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.2 per cent since yesterday)
• 50.2 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 18+) have received a 3rd dose/booster (increase of 0.3 per cent since yesterday)

Deaths

The Health Unit announced one additional death from COVID-19 bringing the local death toll to 543. They say a women in her 70s from the community passed away.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 103 hospitalizations today, and 11 of those hospitalizations are in the ICU (decrease of 3).
