Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update From The Weekend

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 187 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County from over the weekend. The Health Unit does not report case counts and statistics on weekends but provides a weekend summary.

New & Total Cases

Of the 187 new cases: 86 cases were reported on December 4th, 62 cases were reported on Dec 5th, and 39 cases were reported on Dec 6th.

The Health Unit says 85 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 41 cases are community acquired, 4 cases are outbreak related, 4 cases are travel related, and the acquisition sources of 53 cases are still under investigation.

Total overall cases increased from 22,062 on Friday December 3rd to 22,249 on Monday December 6th.

There are 518 cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (decrease of 59 since Friday).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex):

  • 337,095 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+1,686 since Friday)
    • 18,503 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (+1,044 since Friday)
    • 318,592 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+642 since Friday)
    • 34,757 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+5,093 since Friday)
  • A total of 690,444 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+7,421 since Friday)

Vaccination Percentages

  • 76.9 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.4 per cent since Friday)
    • 81.7 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.4 per cent since Friday)
  • 72.7 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.2 per cent since Friday)
    • 77.2 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.1 per cent since Friday)
  • 7.9 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (increase of 1.2 per cent since Friday)

Note: The Health Unit says 438,001 people are living in Windsor and Essex County presently.

The Health Unit lists 21,258 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 246 resolved cases since Friday.

Deaths

There have been no additional deaths from COVID-19 and the local death toll stands at 473.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 23 hospitalizations today: 14 people in acute care (decrease of 1), and 9 people in the ICU (decrease of 1) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
