Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update For Wednesday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 80 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Wednesday.

New & Total Cases

The Health Unit says 23 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 24 cases are community acquired, and the acquisition sources of 33 cases are still under investigation.

Total overall cases increased from 22,300 on Tuesday December 7th to 22,380 on Wednesday December 8th.

There are 530 cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (increase of 26 since yesterday).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex):

  • 337,956 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+461 since yesterday)
    • 18,960 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (+249 since yesterday)
    • 318,996 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+212 since yesterday)
    • 39,386 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+2,183 since yesterday)
  • A total of 696,338 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+2,856 since yesterday)

Vaccination Percentages

  • 77.1 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
    • 81.9 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
  • 72.8 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
    • 77.3 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
  • 8.9 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (increase of 0.4 per cent since yesterday)

Note: The Health Unit says 438,001 people are living in Windsor and Essex County presently.

The Health Unit lists 21,373 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 54 resolved cases since yesterday.

Deaths

There have been no additional deaths from COVID-19 and the local death toll stands at 477.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 30 hospitalizations today: 16 people in acute care (decrease of 4), and 14 people in the ICU with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
