Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update For Thursday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 83 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Thursday.

New & Total Cases

The Health Unit says 37 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 25 cases are community acquired, 4 cases are outbreak related, 3 cases are travel related, and the acquisition sources of 14 cases are still under investigation.

Total overall cases increased from 21,916 on Wednesday December 1st to 21,999 on Thursday December 2nd.

There are 585 cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (increase of 14 since yesterday).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex):

  • 334,893 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+626 since yesterday)
    • 17,178 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (+389 since yesterday)
    • 317,715 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+237 since yesterday)
    • 27,791 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+1,996 since yesterday)
  • A total of 680,399 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+2,859 since yesterday)

Vaccination Percentages

  • 76.4 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
    • 81.2 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.2 per cent since yesterday)
  • 72.5 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
    • 77.0 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
  • 6.3 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (increase of 0.5 per cent since yesterday)

Note: The Health Unit says 438,001 people are living in Windsor and Essex County presently.

The Health Unit lists 20,941 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 67 resolved cases since yesterday.

Deaths

The Health Unit announced two additional deaths from COVID-19 today bringing the local death toll to 473. They say a man in his 70s from the community and a man in his 90s from the community passed away.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 23 hospitalizations today: 12 people in acute care, and 11 people in the ICU with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
