Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update For Thursday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 109 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Thursday.

New & Total Cases

The Health Unit says 37 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 35 cases are community acquired, 2 cases are outbreak related, 3 cases are travel related, and the acquisition sources of 32 cases are still under investigation.

Total overall cases increased from 22,380 on Wednesday December 8th to 22,489 on Thursday December 9th.

There are 559 cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (increase of 29 since yesterday).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex):

  • 338,407 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+451 since yesterday)
    • 19,211 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (+251 since yesterday)
    • 319,196 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+200 since yesterday)
    • 41,658 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+2,272 since yesterday)
  • A total of 699,261 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+2,923 since yesterday)

Vaccination Percentages

  • 77.2 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
    • 82.0 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
  • 72.8 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) are fully vaccinated (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
    • 77.4 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
  • 9.5 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (increase of 0.6 per cent since yesterday)

Note: The Health Unit says 438,001 people are living in Windsor and Essex County presently.

The Health Unit lists 21,452 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 79 resolved cases since yesterday.

Deaths

The Health Unit announced one additional death from COVID-19 bringing the local death toll to 478. They say a woman in her 50s from the community passed away.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 31 hospitalizations today: 19 people in acute care (increase of 3), and 12 people in the ICU (decrease of 2) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
